ZKsync to deprecate Boojum/EraVM execution environment
ZKsync announced security upgrades that will see all Boojum/EraVM chains deprecate the legacy execution environment over the next six months, with each chain setting its own timeline. The move is framed as hardening EraVM against the lower cost of finding vulnerabilities in an AI-driven landscape, while its successor, ZKsync Atlas, is built from the ground up for this environment (Atlas chains are unaffected).

- Hardening measures include an Instant Upgrades framework, code published 3 months after upgrade, and EraBender, a second prover in development.
- Public EraVM chains are recommended to adopt a 24h execution delay (up from 3h) and independent verification nodes.
- No action is needed for funds in EOAs; funds held via smart contracts (multisigs, smart accounts, DEXs, lending markets) will require action once each chain's transition plan is finalized.
- The 24h-delay recommendation doesn't apply to permissioned chains like Grvt, which ZKsync is coordinating with directly. Users were told to follow only official channels and beware of scam DMs.
