MetaMask becomes an independent company as Consensys rebrands
Consensys Software Inc., the company that built MetaMask, is renaming itself MetaMask and operating as an independent company focused entirely on the consumer platform. The protocols and institutional infrastructure businesses, including Linea, are being separated out as part of the move.
MetaMask says nothing changes for existing users today — the app, assets, keys and access remain unchanged and no action is required. The company frames its focus as evolving "beyond the wallet" so people can hold, spend, trade and grow their money while staying in control, which it describes as "Open Money."
