Lido launched 0x02 CSM on mainnet at csm.lido.fi on October 23, 2026, a new permissionless path for independent operators with more capital. Complementing the 32-ETH 0x01 CSM, 0x02 lets anyone run validators with a MaxEB of 2,048 ETH through the Community Staking Module. Lido detailed the rollout in an accompanying introduction post on its blog.
- Operators bond 32 ETH for the first key and 30 ETH per additional key, while the Lido protocol allocates the stake; with bond rebasing, the estimated capital multiplier is ~2.18x for one key, approaching ~2.26x with more keys vs. solo staking
- Capacity grows gradually: 0x02 CSM starts by seeding ~32 keys with 32-ETH deposits, with later capacity increases proposed via Easy Track
- 0x01 CSM will not be deprecated — both modules run in parallel on the same CSM codebase, and the DAO approved a combined ceiling of 20% of Lido Core TVL for permissionless modules
- One interface serves both modules; ICS and IDVTC keep their preferential parameters in 0x01 CSM only
- EIP-8148 proposes custom sweep thresholds for 0x02 validators; it remains a draft and inclusion in a future upgrade is not guaranteed
