Geth v1.17.6 sets Amsterdam on Sepolia as Glamsterdam testnet opens

The Ethereum Foundation's September all-Protocol update confirmed Glamsterdam heads to Sepolia on October 6, with both Hegotá headliners now running on devnets and the post-quantum roadmap taking concrete shape as it is socialized with core developers. The update also highlights faster block propagation and "autoresearch" work.

Client teams have been shipping fork support ahead of the testnet: Geth v1.17.6 ("Inorganic Lubricant") schedules Amsterdam on Sepolia at timestamp 1791294816 (October 6), telling Sepolia node operators to upgrade before then, and the EF earlier opened the Platåberget testnet as an early public testing ground for Glamsterdam, the combined Gloas and Amsterdam upgrades.

Glamsterdam introduces breaking changes for application developers: any tool that relies on a hardcapped maximum gas limit — wallets, indexers, gas estimators — must be updated, since repricing means gas is no longer capped at a fixed maximum. Sepolia activation remains the near-term milestone as changes continue validation ahead of mainnet.
