European Central Bank seeks merchants for digital euro pilot

The European Central Bank is recruiting e-commerce and mobile-commerce merchants for a 12-month digital euro pilot beginning in the second half of 2027. The test will put a beta version of the central bank digital currency through online, mobile, in-store and peer-to-peer payment flows. The pilot marks a concrete step toward a retail CBDC for the eurozone, following years of design and consultation work.
