Coinbase denied reports of a hack, saying an incident at analytics firm Amplitude exposed contact information for a "small subset" of customers — alongside data relating to other Amplitude clients — and that its own systems were not accessed without authorization.
The exchange said it detected no unauthorized access and is notifying affected customers by email as required by law. Passwords, private keys and funds were not compromised, but the exposed email addresses and phone numbers could still be used for phishing and social-engineering attempts. Coinbase did not disclose how many customers were affected or exactly which contact-data fields were involved.
