The Blockchain Association is pushing Congress for a broad overhaul of U.S. crypto tax rules, per a CoinDesk report. Its recommendations include treating stablecoin transactions as cash (non-taxable), taxing staking rewards only at sale, exempting de minimis small transactions, and limiting broker reporting to custodial intermediaries only.
The advocacy group's platform targets the friction in current tax treatment that penalizes everyday crypto use — spending stablecoins, small purchases and staking income — while scaling back reporting burdens on non-custodial players. The recommendations land as Congress prepares a fresh legislative push on digital-asset policy, expected to take up tax questions before market-structure reform. No specific bill has been introduced, and the proposals are not yet law.
