Zcash's Project Tachyon scales shielded money, first testnet evidence live
Zcash is redesigning how shielded money scales through Project Tachyon, led by Sean Bowe and built by the Valar Group. Instead of every wallet scanning the whole chain, each wallet carries a recursive proof of its own balance while nodes keep nullifiers for a recent window and prune the rest. A first release candidate reached testnet on May 22, 2026, trialing 25-second blocks and doubled Orchard throughput, and pruning lowers the hardware bar for running a node.
