The Sandbox updates SAND bridge exploit post-mortem; exchanges re-open deposits

The Sandbox published its full post-mortem of the August 22 SAND bridge exploit, revealing the attacker drained 14,742,341.84 SAND (~0.5% of max supply) from the Ethereum vault via a bridge configuration flaw on Base/BSC. Ethereum and Polygon tokens were never affected, and canonical Ethereum supply remains unchanged at 3,000,000,000 SAND. The investigation ran with external security partners, the bridge was secured, and the attacker's wallet was reported to TRM Labs and Chainalysis. Impact was contained to well under 1% of supply.

  • Update: major exchanges have already re-opened SAND deposits on Ethereum and Polygon and are operating SAND normally; both networks are unaffected and fully backed
  • Affected share of supply limited to well under 1%
