The Linux Foundation announced the operational launch of the x402 Foundation, an open-governance body stewarding the x402 protocol — the open standard for internet-native payments over HTTP, contributed by Coinbase. Google, AWS, Visa, Stripe, Circle and the Linux Foundation are among its backers, with 40 organizations signed on as members spanning finance, cloud and payments.
Mode says it integrated x402 signals into its AI Trading Agents on day 1 of the launch, tying the payment standard directly into its trading products. The protocol, niche a year ago, is positioning itself as default infrastructure for agent payments.
