Zcash's 25-second blocks hit testnet ahead of November launch

Zcash's NU7 upgrade is heading for a November mainnet launch that would make private payments up to three times faster, cutting the target block time from 75 seconds to 25. The 25-second blocks went live on the network's public testnet ahead of schedule on October 5, giving exchanges, wallets and developers a live rehearsal before mainnet.

• NU7 also sets aside at least 60% of transaction fees to supplement mining rewards beginning in 2031.
• The faster blocks align with the network's Project Tachyon redesign to scale shielded money.
