Following Base's launch of its official ENS-based Basenames, BNS confirmed it was winding down to ensure a unified name service and onchain identity experience on Base, effectively ending the project.
BNS launched its Subnames feature, allowing users to create subnames off their existing .base names.
BNS went open to everyone on Base mainnet as the gateway to Web3 naming (.base) for the next billion+ users on Base, shortly after Base's own mainnet opened on Aug 9, 2023.
BNS launched its Genesis collection, a set of 9,999 NFTs whose holders would form its council DAO.
Base Name Service (BNS) was started as an independent project by Itgel Ganbold (aka JackJack), Sabit Bazar, and Gabit Bazar during ETHDenver 2023, as a gasless ENS alternative for Base.
